Mission Based Coaching

And They're Off.....

Or 1st & 10, tip-off, face-off, or 1st pitch; what ever your sport does to get the game under way. This is the initial submission to my blog. If you are wondering about the title it comes from the philosophy that athletic programs (especially, but not exclusively, when affiliated academic or religious insitutions) are done best when their goals match and support those of the sponsoring organization. We spend a tremendous amount of resources on sports to miss the opportunity they provide to promote the life-lessons being taught by the school, church, youth sport organization, rec center, etc. My hope is that this blog will (a) reveal my true love of "the game," (b) provide some useful insights that I have gathered through academic study, careful observation, and my own coaching experience, and (c) facilitate a dialog about athetic coaching's place in society and how coaching can be even more enjoyable. For now I suggest two recent press releases regarding the current state of sport in America.
